Lumbini: Recitation for Peace and Good

October 12 (Nepali date: Ashoj 26), Lumbini / A recitation for peace and good rebirth (Sugati) was held at Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, with prayers for peace and security in Nepal, good rebirth for those martyred in the Gen-Z Movement, and the speedy recovery of the injured.

The recitation was performed by monks and nuns from various Viharas in Lumbini. Participants in the program included Bhikshus (monks) and Bhikshunis (nuns) from the Theravada Vihara, Sri Lankan Vihara, Royal Thai Vihara, Nepali Vihara, Chinese Vihara, and other Mahayana Viharas located in Lumbini.

Dr. Manik Ratna Shakya, Dean of Lumbini Buddhist University and the program organizer, stated that the Gen-Z Movement brought about an epoch-making change in the country. He offered heartfelt condolences to the young brothers and sisters who sacrificed their lives for this change, wishing them good rebirth. “The people will always remember the invaluable contribution of the martyrs,” said Dean Dr. Shakya.

He also wished for the speedy recovery of all those injured and undergoing treatment in the Gen-Z Movement, urging the Government of Nepal and everyone else to provide support for their treatment.

He mentioned that this program was organized in Lumbini to pray for peace, especially because Nepal is currently in a difficult situation, and the public is fearful about what might happen tomorrow.

During the program, archaeologist Basanta Bidari paid tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives in the Gen-Z Movement, stating that their sacrifice would be historical in the future. Similarly, Bhikkhu Siri Vajir emphasized the need for everyone to cultivate a sense of Maitri (loving-kindness) and Karuna (compassion) during this current difficult and sad time, and wished that the merit of this event held in Lumbini would bring peace to Nepal.
